Traditionally linked to Alicante
to which Muchamiel belonged at various stages until it became an independant municipality in 1736. Its proximity to the capital has favoured its being treated as a summer resort by the
people of the Capital who had large residencies built there, such as that of the Conde de Montemar and the palace of the peñacerrada family. The parish church is outstanding, with a a
14th century Gothic tower. Of all the towns of the Alacanti it is the one that is most closely linked to the agricultural world since although its´closeness to the capital favours industry and the
service sector. it still has extensive lands under cultivation. The canal works, irrigation ditches and dams on the Monnegre river are of interest.
