Dominated by the lovely old city of Elche, this region is a busy area, with a very vibrant economy, and it
includes Alicante’s airport and the popular resort town of Santa Pola.
There are few quiet country spots, but one of the nicest coasts in all of Spain with much of the beach area
being protected - it is still possible to sit amond wild sand dunes and not see another person or apartment block!
There are new road projects around Elche to ease traffic congestion in that city and the A& Mediterranean
motorway as it passes this area. The airport is also being expanded with an impressive new terminal due to open in 2009.
