The Marquis of La Romana,
the former overlord, gave his name to this young town which became independant from Novelda in 1929. It lies at the junction of the spurs of the Sierras of Reclot, Agayat and Pedizas.
This town of pines, marble and good wine, is charaterised by its wide landscaped roads and the two large pine copses at the ends of the town, known as the upper grove and the lower grove.
Like other towns in the district, its industrial activities include wine production and marble quarrying in the Sierra del Reclot.
