Jijona is a town that is
marked by its history as a frontier town. The treaty of Amizira made it the border of the Kingdom of Aragón, which gave it an important role in the capture of Alicante in the 13th century.
It soon became a señorio Real then, in 1708 a city. Its historical importance and administrative role can be studied today in the extensive archives whcih are preserved from those times.
The city is located on the slopes of the Migiom or red rock where, according to legend, beehives were kept and the hedonistic Muslims invented turrón nougat.
