Castalla, situated 36km from Alicante, is a small agricultural town.
The town has preserved the old centre with narrow streets and paths which lead up to the now ruined castle. It is said that the many holes in the side of the castle were made by treasure seekers. The area surrounding castalla is covered in dense forest so it is a popular area for cyclists and ramblers.
