Cartagena is the main port in Murcia. It was founded by the Cartaginians in 211BC
and was originally named Cathago Nova (New Carthage). The museum houses some very fine pre Roman and Roman antiquities and is testament to the history of the city.
It is very easy to get lost in this city, I would advise you if you are visiting
by car to park at the Alphonso XIII dock and then travel on foot into the old quarter of the town. There are very many treasures which this city has to offer and it is worth taking the time to explore.
Apart from the museum other places of note are the Torre Ciegab (blind tower),
which is an ancient Roman burial ground dating from the beginning of the 1st century.
