Proud of its history, in 1995
Biar commemorated the 750th anniversary of the fact which has left the greatest mark on its identity, its conquest by the troops of Jaime 1 and subsequent incorporation into the kingdom of Aragón.
The first thing that you see as you approach Biar from Cañada, Alcoy or Villena is the imposing castle dating from Arab times, which is now a national monument. At the moment it cannot be
visited due to restoration work being carried out. Coming down from the castle to the Town Hall square you cross the old town centre, tastefully preserved and rejuvenated, abounding with
fountains and steps. In the Town Hall square is the church dedicated to the Virgen of the Assumption, with a Renaissance style front and a spectacular baroque sacristy. Another attraction
is the beauty of the landscape.
