Benejama was an ancient
Muslim hamlet that belonged to Biar, becoming independant in 1795. Because of the water of the Vinalopó, Benejama has developed irrigated agriculture with fruit trees and vines which produce quality
wine. Even so, the greater part of the land is devoted to unirrigated almond and olive growing. It is becoming increasingly industrialised, especially
textiles. The town lies in the middle of the Vinalopó Valley between the Sierra de Solana and the Sierra de Biar.
