The bridges together with its´status as an industrial pioneer in the Valencia Community, are the defining features of Alcoy. In the Archeological Museum of Alcoy there is
an Iberian figure of a spinner, but it was in the second half of the 18th century when the industrial revolution began in Alcoy, with manufacturing installations near the river to make use of the
hydraulic power. This revolution was to mark the essence of Alcoy during the 19th and 20th century since, like a minature Barcelona, it was to take part in the great worker emancipation
movements such as the Luddites and anarchist attacks. The wealthy industrial bourgeois class enriched the towns´heritage with noble buildings in the modernist style. The expansion of the
medieval nucleus, because of the burgeoning industry, led to the construction of bridges which span the confluence of rivers in Alcoy.
